Mayan Art

As you can see from this grafitti in Panajachel, Guatemala, mayan art is alive and well in the Guatemalan highlands. The highlands are the traditional homeland of the Maya. Most of the 6 million or so Maya live there.

This is a sunrise over Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, in Central America, as seen from Panajachel. Lake Atitlan is widely regarded as the most beautiful place in the world, and Panajachel has the best biew of the lake and volcanoes.

This Maya woman in Panajachel, Guatemala, is weaving on the traditional backstrap loom. This is a very labor-intensive project. It probably took 2 months to weave her huipil (blouse), for example.
